Case Studies - Tom Wise
Tom lives on his own in a bungalow in a small rural village on the outskirts
of Herne Bay. Tom has lived here for many years having wonderful memories of his late wife and
days of working as a successful chef.
In Tom's later years he has suffered from some mental health problems, causing
him to feel very distressed and sometimes paranoid, this makes everyday tasks such as washing,
dressing, preparing meals and taking medication very difficult for Tom to complete.
Home Service was contacted by the local mental health assessment team to provide
care and support to Tom in his own home, after speaking to Tom, liaising with the mental health
team and completing our initial assessment, it became apparent that Tom was an independently minded
person who did not feel he needed too much help. It was agreed that we would provide a minimal care
package until Tom could trust his carers and our company.
After receiving care from two of our experienced carers, Pam and Julie, Tom's
trust was gained.
Two years later Tom now receives a call in the morning, afternoon, and evening
seven days a week, 365 days a year, with three and a half hours support with additional domestic
support. The calls are completed by Toms’ trusted carers Pam, Julie and Margaret.
Within these two years, with the help from Tom’s care manager, we have managed to
help him in many ways; from organising a new central heating system to ensure Tom is safe and warm
during the winter months, through to tending to his beloved cats.
Tom now lives an independent and comfortable life in his own home where he can reflect
and share memories of his past.
